Artist Lorena Torres presents Nada es distinto (Nothing is Different), a series of paintings that explore personal emotions through a direct relationship between lived experience and gesture. The work functions as an intimate record, where painting operates more as testimony than as aesthetic object.
The pieces reveal a gaze that lingers on the other with intensity, often at the edge of emotional overflow or obsession. In this context, the rural Caribbean is not merely a backdrop; it becomes an active element, playing a crucial role in shaping meaning. An open onion, the density of the undergrowth, or a fleeting gesture evoke images where territory and emotion converge.
In these paintings, the real and the dreamlike intermingle. Rather than narrating, they suggest. Sensory fragments emerge: smells, climates, and landscapes marked by a diffuse temporality. The work seems concerned with anchoring what endures, even as it changes form.
The title Nada es distinto points to this idea: what has been lived does not disappear — it transforms. The exhibition offers a path where images do not explain, but rather invite viewers to read them through the lens of bodily and emotional memory.
