Lorena Torres

Bio

Lorena Torres (b. 1991, Barranquilla, Colombia) lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia. Drawing from family memories, she depicts scenes of the Colombian countryside, weaving narratives imbued with a sense of magic. Through romantically lush vegetation and languid figures suspended in the hazy slow motion of a southern dream, Lorena evokes an intimate, collective history.
She holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. Her work has been exhibited in various spaces, including SGR Galería and Galería Subtítulo in Bogotá, Colombia; Pablo’s Birthday and Thierry Goldberg in New York, USA; and Fundación Casa Santa Ana in Panama, among others.

Statement

Painting, the rural Caribbean, and Lorena Torres form an inseparable bond. Through her work, she evokes the plastic flower that endures in a coastal cemetery, the sky surrendering to the night, a farewell kiss. She paints to honor her cultural heritage and to rediscover the world through a Caribbean lens—surreal, burning, sandy. Her painting holds the versatility of fantasy and the strength of the everyday. She recreates the countryside, the fruits, the scent of the wild, the sound of rain and wind. These are not stories to be told, but stories to be seen.
