Vanessa Orelli
Bio
Vanessa Orelli (Swiss-Argentinian, 1977) is an artist and textile artisan based in Panama since 2014. Her practice combines textile and printmaking techniques, exploring both outer and inner worlds through an introspective lens. Through themes such as belonging, loneliness in a hyperconnected world, and transnational identities, her work delves into the emotional, biographical, and ritual. Her slow, process-oriented approach contrasts with today’s fast-paced consumer culture. In 2020, she founded Olivia Ann Studio, awarded for its innovation in the creative industry. Since 2021, she has co-managed Espacio Materia and the Slow Club, platforms that promote local art, design, and craftsmanship in Panama.
Statement
Through art, the artist confronts emotional and physical displacements that fragment her identity, giving rise to new versions of herself. She explores the sense of belonging from a transnational perspective, where roots scatter and identity shifts. Her body and spirit, marked by visible and invisible scars, become part of a fabric that narrates constant metamorphosis. This work is an open-ended process, a search for meaning within disorder.
