Maia Alfaro
Bio
Maia Alfaro is an artist who delves into the mysticism of life through creative practices such as painting and writing, exploring it simultaneously through the body and image. She chooses to live and work outside civilizing centers, always with the intention of aligning herself with the wisdom of Mother Nature. In texts for Diario La Prensa, Revista Terremoto, MAC Panamá, and through curating exhibitions such as Paisaje Gris con Gota Roja, she has reflected on the complexities of decolonizing the art world. Her artistic practice has led her to interweave a diversity of media and materials, creating ephemeral works she has seldom shown, except in experimental spaces like Arte Nómada and Your Art Aquí. More ceremonial than professional, for her, this exhibition with Arteconsult symbolizes a maturing of her relationship with art spaces—finally harmonizing the ceremonial with the professional. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently lives in Chiriquí.
Statement
These forms are the traces of a healing process: the intuitive movement that emerges when imperfect roots seek to deepen into love. Whirls of pain and flesh of color in their tender dance of uncertain beauty. Folds that conceal and embody the legend of a metamorphosis.
